The General English Course is a specialised English language programme designed for students who want to prepare for a lifetime experience, such as working, studying, or living casually or permanently in any English-speaking setting.

Course Objectives

The main aim is to give you the confidence to live and work in the English-speaking world. It is also an excellent preparation before enrolling for English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course.
Students are equipped to identify various English texts, to write in a range of genres, to discuss materials and present ideas/opinions in small groups, and to handle individual presentations as well as group discussions.
Students gain familiarity with ordinary interactions and correspondence to integrate into their lifestyle.

Skylark offers six Levels in online/on campus classes:

English Class Levels To ensure you are placed at the right English level you are tested on your first day. We offer 6 levels of General English classes:

Beginner (8 weeks)
Elementary (12 weeks)
Pre-intermediate (12 weeks)
Intermediate (12 weeks)
Upper-Intermediate (16 weeks)
Advanced (16 weeks)

How Do I Move Up an English Level? You are assessed throughout your English course. The standard of your class work and homework, and your results on end-of-unit tests, determine your class level for the next unit of study. We expect it will take between 8-12 weeks to progress from one level to the next.

Activities:

There are many activities for GE students to be involved in class. These include games, quizzes etc. During supervised Self Access sessions, you will be able to use the computer centres and log on and have access to online Skylark LMS materials that directly reinforce what you have studied during your face-to-face classes. Assessments are weekly and monthly in addition to the exiting assessment and are held to monitor the progress of students and determine further study pathways. Graduation Students will be able to receive a Skylark standardized Certificate of proficiency at the completion of their course and a Statement of attendance.

Entry Requirements:

There is no specific entry or minimum English language requirement for our GE program.

Free Placement Tests

We provide new students with placement tests to gauge their current English abilities and knowledge in the areas of reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary and grammar. Based on the results in the placement tests, we will be able to place students in an English course most suitable to their current language proficiency.
